With Christmas very much on the horizon, winter party season is swinging into action, as calendars fill up with festive drinks and dinners. So this week we’re focusing on winter entertaining at home. Whether you have a serene and spacious dining room, or are cramming in a group of friends around the kitchen table, we’ve rounded up our top tips for setting the mood with a beautiful tablescape.
Opt for a seasonal centrepiece We love a focal point for the table. In terms of flowers, autumn and winter are wonderful for greenery and foliage - from festive holly and ferns, aconite, hellebores and thistles. Fill a large vase as the perfect centrepiece (simply whip it to the side if it’s getting in the way of conversation mid supper). For something a little different, opt for a lovely ceramic bowl, and fill with aromatic winter delights - pine cones, dried orange slices and cinnamon sticks. A selection of ornamental gourds, will look lovely and autumnal. |

Entertain by candlelight Create the perfect mood with candles - whether you opt for chunky styles for the centre of the table, or lots of tiny twinkling tea lights, flickering candlelight is a fast track to an inviting ambience. A dimmer switch on overhead lights, or keeping the odd smaller lamp on can make the candlelight go a little further and stop your guests from eating in the dark. And, we love a mirror or series of mirrors in the space - these will double the light, add to the feeling of space and set a cosy tone. |

Go colourful with your tabletop The enveloping dark of winter is the perfect excuse to go bold with your decor. And your tablescape is the perfect place to start. We’re all about mixing it up - layer a block-printed tablecloth with colourful woven placemats. Don’t worry about matching - the eclectic mood will all add to a lovely, warm space. |
