Hosting a Memorable End-of-Summer Garden Party

Hosting a Memorable End-of-Summer Garden Party

Just before summer, I decided September would be the perfect time to host a garden party. The occasion? My 10th wedding anniversary—though, honestly, any excuse to gather some of my favourite people around a Wicklewood-filled table would do. Plus, I thought it would give everyone something to look forward to after the holidays.

I conceptualized the party before the summer but in reality, many things ended up coming together at the last minute and thankfully it all turned out beautifully. Here are some of my favourite things that made this evening truly memorable.

The Bar: A Shed Makeover

When you need a last-minute bar solution, think creatively! I transformed my shed into an impromptu bar area, complete with a makeshift countertop (aka a trestle table).

Setting the table

To create a fresh base, I started with crisp white tablecloths. This gives a clean, neutral backdrop that lets you play with colour and pattern. I added our Ginny fabric as table runner to inject vibrant energy into the setting. It’s a simple trick that ties the whole table together, making it pop without overwhelming the space.

The Menu: Bangarang Food for Thought

I couldn’t have been more thrilled with the delicious food provided by Bangarang. Danny's vibrant, flavour-packed dishes were the perfect accompaniment to the party’s relaxed atmosphere. The menu featured fresh, seasonal ingredients and a fun twist on traditional summer fare—we were all obsessed with their coconut flatbread- a game changer!

The ODD Rockers: An Instant Hit

My friend Emmy owner of ODD Limited kindly lent me two of her fabulous swing chairs. Having plenty of seating areas is key for guests to relax both before and after dinner.

Rain Insurance: The Lifesaving Tent

One of the best decisions for the party was borrowing tents from friends. With the unpredictable British weather, there was a high chance of rain (which thankfully didn’t arrive until 3am). The tents were not only practical but also added an intimate atmosphere to the garden. Don’t hesitate to ask friends for help when hosting—it’s a great way to keep things stress-free.

The Final Surprise : Live Music

As guests were finishing their dessert, the Diamond Boys arrived in the garden, turning the end of the dinner into an epic finale!
